Senior Data Engineer
Project/Client: Banking
Location: Baltic States (remote)
Start Date: ASAP
Language: English
Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join a cross-functional Agile team operating at a Pan-Baltic, international scale within the banking domain. The role focuses on designing and improving end-to-end data solutions — from ingestion and processing to storage and sharing — across both cloud (AWS) and on-premises (Oracle DB) environments. The engineer will work with modern frameworks such as Airflow, dbt, and SAP Data Services, contribute to Data Mesh and Medallion architecture implementations, and support the modernization of legacy DWH systems. Strong ownership, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset are essential for success in this fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and continuously improve systems for data ingestion, processing, storage, and sharing within a Data Mesh platform across cloud and legacy DWH environments
Build and optimize AWS cloud and on-premises (Oracle DB) data architectures for performance, scalability, and reliability
Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using modern tools and frameworks to support regulatory, operational, and analytical needs across banking areas
Support and modernize legacy data systems, ensuring smooth migration toward cloud platform architecture
Uphold high standards of data quality, security, availability, and performance
Collaborate with analysts, software engineers, and business stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver solutions
Perform code reviews, troubleshoot software, and resolve defects
Implement monitoring and alerting for data workflows
Participate in the EOD process — including a one-week ROTA rotation with availability until 23:00–24:00 for incident troubleshooting and resolution
Work as part of a cross-functional Agile team in a Pan-Baltic international environment
Must-Have Requirements:
Proven experience with SQL and Python
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Good understanding of data pipeline tools such as Airflow or dbt
Working knowledge of enterprise data platforms: Oracle DB, SAP IQ, SAP Data Services, and SAP Business Objects
Knowledge of solution integrations — real-time, message-based, and event-driven architectures — including bridging legacy systems with modern data platforms
Exposure to test automation and DevOps practices, including infrastructure as code, security best practices, CI/CD, and Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
Experience with Data Products deliveries, Medallion architecture, and Data Mesh architecture
Fluent English (spoken and written) — required for Pan-Baltic cross-team collaboration
Proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of taking full ownership of solution delivery
Ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment with evolving technologies and priorities
EU citizenship or valid work permit
Nice to Have:
Experience within the banking / customer business domain
Experience with container orchestration tools: Kubernetes, Docker
Understanding of streaming data pipelines and platforms: Kafka, Spark, Flink
Experience with reporting tools such as Power BI
Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases
Java development experience
